Itinerary
After breakfast, depart from Tashkent and cross the border into Tajikistan, where you'll meet your Tajik guide and drivers. Head to Khujand, one of Tajikistan’s oldest cities, nestled in the Fergana Valley along the Syr Darya River. On arrival, enjoy lunch at Anora, a house museum showcasing traditional Tajik design and hospitality. After lunch, explore Panjshabe Bazaar, the largest market in Tajikistan, and visit the Maslihaddin Mosque, the Historical Museum, the Lenin Monument, and Arbob Cultural Palace. At Arbob, you’ll also visit a small factory producing traditional Tajik textiles.
Embark on a scenic drive to Iskanderkul, a lake named after Alexander the Great, renowned for its legendary beauty. Stop in Istaravshan, a city steeped in history, to admire its skilled artisans and historical landmarks. Enjoy lunch by the shores of Iskanderkul and take a short hike to Iskander Waterfall and the serene Snake Lake. Conclude your day with a transfer to Saratog Village, where you’ll spend the night in a local guesthouse.
After breakfast, continue your journey to Penjikent, often referred to as the “City of Five Villages.” A vital trading post along the Great Silk Road from the 5th century onwards, Penjikent boasts a rich history. Explore the local market, the mosque, and the small History Museum. Visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sarazm, home to ancient ruins dating back to the 4th–2nd millennia BCE. In the evening, participate in a cooking masterclass at a traditional teahouse, accompanied by live performances of Zarafshan songs by a talented local singer and drum player.
Set out on an adventurous day trip to the Seven Lakes, a stunning mountain region near Penjikent. Although close, the rough road conditions make it a full-day excursion. Travel up the valley to the sixth lake and take a one-hour hike to the seventh lake, Hazorchashma, the highest in the region. Enjoy a scenic picnic by the lake and spend time soaking in the breathtaking surroundings before hiking back to the sixth lake. On your return, make brief stops in mountain villages to experience the charm of local life. End your journey at the border, where you’ll meet your Uzbek guide and drivers.
