4D3N Tajikistan Culture Tour
Discover Penjikent's heritage, hike to the stunning Seven Lakes, marvel at Iskanderkul's beauty, explore Dushanbe's cultural treasures, and visit ancient UNESCO sites in Sarazm, with vibrant landscapes throughout.
Itinerary
Begin your adventure by crossing the border and meeting your Tajik guide and drivers. Head to Penjikent, often called the Pompeii of Central Asia. From here, travel into the stunning mountains to explore the Seven Lakes. Despite the short distance, the journey takes a full day due to rugged roads. Drive up the valley to the sixth lake, followed by a two-hour hike to the highest and most picturesque seventh lake, Hazorchashma. Spend time enjoying the serene surroundings and wandering along the lake shore before hiking back down. On the return journey, stop in villages for short walks and have lunch at a guesthouse in Noffin village. Return to Penjikent for the evening.
Embark on a scenic drive from Penjikent to Dushanbe, passing the Zerafshan and Hissor mountain ranges. Along the way, visit Iskanderkul, a triangular lake named after Alexander the Great, renowned for its breathtaking beauty. Enjoy the panoramic views, hike to the Iskander Waterfall, and see the mysterious Snake Lake. Have lunch by the lake before continuing to Dushanbe. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and conclude the day with dinner accompanied by live music and dance performances.
Start the day with a visit to the National Museum of Antiquities, home to the famous Sleeping Buddha statue excavated from Ajina Teppa. Tour the Navruz Palace, a magnificent modern structure showcasing intricate craftsmanship by artisans from across Tajikistan. After lunch, visit the statue of Ismail Somoni in Rudaki Park, which honors the Samanid dynasty’s golden age. Stroll through Rudaki Park, dedicated to the renowned 10th-century Persian poet, Rudaki. Conclude the day with a visit to the Hissar Fortress, the remains of an 18th-century fort located on the city's outskirts.
After breakfast, journey back to Penjikent, where you’ll enjoy lunch before visiting the Penjikent Museum, Old Penjikent, and the Sarazm settlement, a UNESCO World Heritage site dating back to the 5th–6th centuries BC. Conclude your Tajikistan tour with a transfer to the Jartepa Border. Expect to arrive in Samarkand by evening.
